Dental Crowns

Crowns

Dental crowns are used to restore and protect heavily broken down teeth.

They cover the entire tooth to replicate the original tooth as much as possible. Crowns can be made from many materials including gold and porcelain. Often back crowns are made from porcelain and fused to a metal core for added strength. The inside of the crown can be finished with a fine metal line to ensure a tight seal.

Other options include crowns which have a high lustre gold inner core that allows the outer porcelain work to look more lifelike and aesthetic. This eliminates any grey show-through of the metal at the gum level and through the crown. An example of this is the Captek crown. All porcelain crowns are also available for back teeth, which usually have a high strength zirconium sub structure. These are also highly aesthetic as there is no metal involved.

For front teeth, advances have meant that we can use highly aesthetic all ceramic crowns which look completely natural.
